therapy for breakups in seattle, wa

offering broken hearts a soft place to land

it’s over, and now you’re asking… what am I going to do now?

Maybe the relationship lasted decades, or maybe just a few months. Maybe you were trying to work on it, or maybe it came as a surprise. Maybe you did the breaking up, or maybe you were broken up with. However it happened, moving forward and living life without your partner is a massive adjustment.

You might be wishing there was a rule book or itinerary to teach you how to get through this. Some part of you knows that you need time, patience, kindness, etc. but none of that general wisdom really matches the urgency you feel. Additional support can help, especially if:

  • All roads seem to lead back to grief; you find yourself crying or raging about the biggest and smallest reminders again and again

  • Your natural rhythms of eating, sleeping, socializing, and working have fallen off course

  • New boundaries with your ex feel confusing; maybe you feel a magnetic pull toward their social media or nonstop urges to check in with them

  • You can’t stop your mind from replaying the memories - trying to figure out what went wrong, if it was your fault, or how to prevent this from ever happening again

offering a relationship that understands this particular kind of grief

It’s not always going to be just like this.

It has been ___ days/weeks/months since the breakup, and it still feels like one of the most defining parts of your life right now. You’re holding out hope that change is out there somewhere on the horizon, it’s just not clear how far away that is. I want to suggest that maybe the growth you’re looking for is already happening.

Breakups can bring forward a vulnerable, messy, existential kind of pain, and I really trust that beyond that pain there will be light and energy again. I will invite your whole experience to our sessions, in all of its layers and intricacies. I’ll help you slow down, move closer to your heart, and hold space for each and every wave of emotion; starting with despair, moving toward hope.

When we stay attuned to your experience and signals of strength, heartbreak can offer a window to understand your intrinsic motivation toward creating a life that feels good, right, and true to you. Clearing the road to that life may require witnessing your pain, grieving what you did not get to have sooner, and softening to let in care from others.

Our work together will balance responding to what you need right now and also holding space to understand your last relationship. Our sessions are a protected space where we can go beyond exploring what wasn’t working and also see what was working. Looking back, you may be able to find more compassion for what you needed and what motivates you.

After that first session, you’ll come in to talk with me about what’s important to you. I’ll help us stay focused on your goals, meet you with compassion and curiosity, and support you in taking a stance of care and acceptance toward yourself.

  • Every person, relationship, and process of recovery is different.
