trauma and relationship therapy in seattle, wa

helping you know and trust your innate goodness

You dream of a life that feels peaceful and exciting, challenging and still manageable, connected and secure. You know where you want to be, you’re just not sure how to get there.

You’re in the right place, we can get there together.

I’m Chelsea (she/her), and while I am a straight, white passing, cis, able-bodied, straight sized woman, my practice and I warmly welcome diversity of all kinds, including sexual orientation, gender, race, country of origin, ethnicity, ability, age, and size. I am a therapist and I am also a real human person. You can expect me to show up authentically, imperfectly, and totally welcoming of you just as you are.

I work with highly sensitive and conscientious people who want to heal their trauma and deepen their relationships. I help my clients find clarity, confidence, and self-compassion by making space to fully feel their feelings, learn from the wisdom of their bodies, and experience connection in a safe and caring relationship.

Healing is a big process, and it might be different than you expect. Conventional wisdom for working with trauma and relationships might involve a heavy focus on content and learning techniques, which can sometimes lead people to feel guilty or ashamed for not always “following the rules” or “doing it right.” While I will never shy away from offering you information that might help you, I truly believe that just as you are today, there is a force within you that already intrinsically knows how to heal and grow. Our work is to collaborate to create conditions that are safe enough to let this natural and inevitable process take hold, and of course we will celebrate the moments when we see it happen.

We will start by exploring your early relationships and building awareness for the rules you learned to follow to get what you needed. Often, the coping mechanisms that cause problems for us as adults were once effective ways of maintaining connection, security, or any other undeniable human need. As you build reverence and respect for the brilliant and creative ways your younger self managed to survive and make sense of the world around them, a foundation of self-compassion will propel us toward discovering new ways of being with your experiences and new confidence as you witness yourself as capable, strong, and alive.

"Daring to imagine and daring to hope can be the first steps towards growth and healing. The human capacity to heal is immense when met with the right conditions of attuned presence, empathy, and genuine emotional connection." - Diana Fosha

therapy with me is…

experiential

While I am listening to the content of our conversations, I also pay attention to what happens for you internally. Expect me to help you get really curious about how it is for you -
right here, right now.

emotion-focused

Our emotions give us powerful in-the-moment information about who we are and what is healthy or unhealthy for us. Together we will take steps toward acceptance of and appreciation for the wisdom of your emotions.

relational

Change is not easy, and having a reliable, attuned, and experienced person on the other side makes a tremendous difference. I will be your ally and supporter in this process.

trauma-informed

Whether you are coming to therapy to because of something that happened to you or not, this relationship will always highlight your agency, consent, and respect for you as a whole person.

more about me:

  • My style is eclectic and integrates person-centered, emotion-focused, and attachment-oriented therapies. I have experience with a variety of treatment modalities and my work currently most closely aligns with Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, which integrates attachment theory, emotion-focused therapy, psychodynamic principles, experiential techniques, and interpersonal neurobiology.

  • Prior to opening this practice, I was trained and have worked in community mental health agencies and school settings in the greater Philadelphia and Seattle areas. I have experience working with children, teens, families, individual adults, and groups.

  • I come from a big Korean-American family and I love being a daughter, sister, and auntie. I spend a lot of time trying to train my beloved (and reactive) dog, Ziggy. I love to cook, bake, and drink oat milk lattes. I listen to a wide variety of music and podcasts, and I love stand up comedy, reality TV and keeping up with the latest and greatest memes.
